Privacy Policy — MultiChat for WhatsApp Web

Last updated: 1 August 2026

MultiChat is an open-source browser extension that rearranges WhatsApp Web’s own interface inside your browser tab. This policy describes, completely, what it does with data.

What MultiChat collects

Nothing is collected. There is no server, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising identifier and no account. Nothing leaves your browser.

What MultiChat stores

Two things, in Chrome’s local extension storage (chrome.storage.local), on your own machine:

  1. Which grid layout you chose (2x2, 3x1 or 1x3).
  2. The display names of the chats you placed in the grid, so your arrangement survives a page refresh.

That is the complete list. Message content is never stored, neither on disk nor anywhere else. Messages are read from the page and drawn into the grid in memory; closing or refreshing the tab discards them.

Profile pictures are shown by pointing at the image WhatsApp has already loaded in the page. They are never copied, downloaded or saved.

What MultiChat reads

While you are on https://web.whatsapp.com, the extension reads the conversation and chat list that WhatsApp is already displaying, in order to mirror them into the grid. It reads nothing on any other website — it is not loaded anywhere else.

What MultiChat sends

Messages you type in the grid are typed into WhatsApp’s own message box and sent by WhatsApp, exactly as if you had typed them yourself. MultiChat never communicates with WhatsApp’s servers directly, and never communicates with any server of its own, because it does not have one.

Third parties

None. No data is shared, sold or transferred to anybody, because none is collected.

Removing your data

Uninstalling the extension deletes its stored settings. You can also clear them at any time with the “Clear all” button in the extension popup.

Changes

Any change to this policy will be committed to the public repository, so its full history is auditable.
